Jennie Garth has had a whirlwind year full of change and rediscovering herself. The former 90210 star not only went through a divorce from her husband of 11 years, Peter Facinelli, but she also hit the milestone of turning 40.
Both life-changing 2012 events prompted Garth to take a look at what was working and what wasn't in her day-to-day routine.
In People's latest cover story, Garth reveals: " has been a bit of a rebirth for me as a person by shedding that negative space and all the pain associated with that time."
Garth explains that in addition to focusing on her three daughters with Facinelli -- Luca, 15, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5 -- she decided to kick-start her career with high-profile stints in the popular Old Navy ad campaign that reunited her with her old 90210 pals Luke Perry and Jason Priestley.
The actress also decided to "focus on taking better care of myself," she says, by dropping what she refers to as "30 pounds of dead weight."
Losing the weight has meant far beyond the physical act of dropping a few dress sizes to Garth; it also symbolizes the transformation she has experienced this year.
"It definitely feels like a great time in my life," says Garth, who tells People she's confident she'll fall in love again. "Even through the ups and downs, I'm happy. I'm thankful to be alive."
