Jennifer Aniston has discovered that the secret to happiness was leaving home. On Friday, the Wanderlust star talked to an Australian radio show about ditching New York City for Los Angeles -- despite the attachment that both she and boyfriend Justin Theroux feel to the Big Apple.
"We tried New York," Aniston told The Kyle and Jackie O Show. "It felt like I was in a fishbowl."
Aniston actually grew up in New York City, and moved back in 2011. At the time, she told Good Morning America that she missed it, because "there's nothing like being in the city" and "it's all walks of life, and I love that." But her decision may have had something to do with Theroux, who was already living in the City That Never Sleeps. And indeed, Aniston said on the radio that Justin "still has an apartment there."
"I would choose the city over the country," Theroux confirmed in a recent interview. "I love city life. Especially in New York where it's like, go and see a play, go to see music -- all of your friends are very central."
So he likes New York, she likes New York -- what was the problem? Apparently, living in N.Y.C. just isn't the same when you're being stalked by photographers 24-7.
"It was a little rough with the paparazzi," the actress admits. "It didn't feel like the New York I grew up in and knew."
But no worries -- Aniston is perfectly happy to be in L.A. now. In fact, when asked to rate her happiness on a scale of 1 to 10, she puts it at a "10-plus."
"You have a more relaxed sense of the world and life," she says of the place she's at now, both mentally and physically. "And you realize there's nothing to be taken too seriously besides doing your work and being a really good person."
Well -- that and a great pair of shoes, right Jen?
