Rumors have long swirled that Jennifer Aniston is ready for a baby -- any minute! -- but now we’re thinking there just might be something to all that buzz she’s shot down for so long. Photo agency x17online.com recently snapped pics of Aniston and new live-in beau Justin Theroux exiting a doctor’s office together and Aniston sucking on a lollipop, which is often given to newly pregnant women after a blood draw to keep their blood sugar up.
If the Friends star is finally preggo, congrats, and if not, she better get on it because a sobering story in the New York Times says that despite looking like a fertile 25-year-old, the 42-year-old actress might not have much time left. The eye-opening article says that women in their 40s who exude youth and beauty probably don’t have any more chance of conceiving than counterparts sporting gray hair and crow’s feet. In short, it doesn’t matter how you look, it’s all about the eggs.
“They all think they are more fertile than they are,” Dr. Ingrid Rodi, an associate clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at U.C.L.A., who has a private practice in Santa Monica, told the Times. “I have patients who say: ‘I’m 48 but everyone thinks I’m 38. Shouldn’t I be as fertile as a 38-year-old?’ ”
Sadly, no. While it’s true that exercising and eating right are great for looking good and feeling healthy, the reality is there are no Pilates classes for your ovaries, nor is there a vitamin supplement than can replace your eggs. Regardless of how you look, by age 37, only 10,000 to 40,000 of the two million eggs a woman is born with remain, and a majority of those perish before ever being released, Dr. Zev Rosenwaks, director of the Ronald O. Perelman and Claudia Cohen Center for Reproductive Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and co-author of the fertility guide A Baby At Last! told the Times. Yikes.
Although the article can be viewed as a crushing blow to women in their 40s who have banked on their outward beauty as a sign that their womb is baby-ready, we also see a silver lining: a reminder that if you want a baby, don’t wait. Start trying now. And yes, we’re talking to you, Jen Aniston!
