Most of us would describe Jennifer Aniston's 30s as the time when she was the world's most popular TV star.
But Aniston, who will turn 45 in February, looks back on the years between 1999 and 2009 a little differently. In a new interview with Parade, she describes her Friends glory days as her "awkward phase."
When asked what she knows now that she didn't know at 25, the actress replied, "That there’s nothing to worry about -- although I don’t think I had a care in the world at 25, either. That all started in my thirties, my awkward phase. I’m a little bit of a late bloomer!"
"But it doesn’t matter to me because it just gets better," Aniston continued. "They do say youth is wasted on the young, but I feel just as youthful now -- if not more -- than I did when I was 25. I’m more in my body; I’m more in my mind. Life is full. Life is wonderful. We’re very, very fortunate."
In case your memory needs refreshing, here are a few things that happened in Aniston's 30s. She starred in Office Space, The Break-Up and Bruce Almighty. She won an Emmy and was nominated for five more. She was named "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World" by People magazine. She married Brad Pitt and then rebounded with Vince Vaughn. We should all have a phase so awkward!
And yet we understand where Jen is coming from. All the success in the world can't compare with understanding who you really are and what you actually want out of life. Comparing photos of Aniston in the late '90s and today, she looks equally gorgeous and put-together -- but there's a confidence in the way she carries herself now, and a sparkle in her eyes, that wasn't there in her Friends days.
As advertisements for turning 45 go, you can't do much better than that.
