And baby makes five! Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck recently spilled the beans that they’re expecting number three -- and according to Us Weekly, it wasn't any kind of birth control slip-up. "She's always wanted three kids....this was her plan all along." (Let's hope Ben was on board, too.)
The couple, already the parents of Violet, 5, and Seraphina, 2, are clearly comfortable enough with family life to give up the man-to-man defense and bring a third child into the mix, but they recognize it's not without effort! "We figure it out day by day," Garner told Us in April about balancing work and parenting. "It's always messy and it's never as glamorous as people think it is, but we get through, and as long as the kids are happy, it's all good."
While an expanding brood may be no biggie in the supersized celebrity sibling world of the Duggars, Gosselins or Jolie-Pitts, having a third for normal parents of two is a huge game changer -- and we keep thinking of all the ways the Affleck/Garner family's life is about to change.
First off, everyone’s rank is altered -- the once-youngest (in this case, sweet Seraphina) is thrust into infamous middle child territory (hello, Jan Brady) and now the kids are odd-numbered, which may mean that one kid gets left out sometimes. But on the other hand, many moms of three we know say the re-org is no big deal -- that the biggest leap is from one to two kids -- and that once you've done that, going from two to three kids is gravy.
Since the Affleck/Garners have two daughters, it's easy to think that dad Ben might be gunning for a son with this pregnancy since he's close with his younger brother Casey. And we can't help think that a boy with two big sisters to school him might turn Mr. Affleck, Jr. into major marriage material down the road. But Jennifer comes from a family of three girls, so maybe she's hoping that another girl would mean that the trio could become best friends down the road. We'll just have to wait and see.
