Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck re-affirmed their marriage, and their adorableness, on this week's Saturday Night Live. During his opening monologue, guest host Affleck raised the awkward subject of his Oscar thank-you speech, during which he thanked Garner for "working on" their marriage. His choice of words sparked rumors that Jen and Ben's relationship was in trouble, and on Saturday, they addressed those rumors for the first time together. Watch the clip below!
"It's a way we talk privately about how committed we our to our marriage," Garner explained to the audience, after Affleck mentioned his Oscar flub. "Not sure why you had to share it live to a billion people. ..."
The couple then launched into a scripted argument about the speech, with Jen suggesting he should have called their marriage "a gift," and Ben digging himself further into a hole.
"It's a gift to the work of marriage, which you gifted me with enormous work, to be completely honest," Ben stammered.
"While we're being completely honest, why don't we just go ahead and mention who does all the work?" Jen, the mother of their three children, quipped.
At the end of the sketch, Affleck told his wife the things he wished he'd said in the speech: "I couldn't do any of the things I do without you, without your support. You're my angel, my life, my world." The "aww" from the audience turned into laughter when Jen pointed out that Ben was reading from a cue card.
"You're a lot of work," she told him affectionately. Before Garner went offstage, Affleck hugged her and appeared to whisper "I love you" in her ear. Double awww!
It's always encouraging when famous couples can laugh about their relationships, negative gossip and all. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, for instance, recently addressed some divorce rumors in a very funny Twitter exchange:
Hey @mirandalambert... I just read in a tabloid that our marriage is falling apart!!! FOCK!!!— Blake Shelton (@blakeshelton) March 18, 2013
“@mirandalambert: Oh no! Can't wait to read if we make it or not”Ba! Ha! Ha! You see y'all!!! I'm making her funnier!!!— Blake Shelton (@blakeshelton) March 18, 2013
We also recall another couple joking about tabloid gossip during an SNL monologue -- and while they didn't ultimately go the distance, they did stay together for eight years. Here's Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore making fun of their age difference in 2005, the year they were married.
Affleck and Garner, married for almost eight years, have remained rock steady through countless break-up reports. That doesn't mean they'll be together forever, but their SNL repartee gives us a lot more confidence in them than in couples who can't laugh about themselves.
