Jennifer Lawrence are Josh Hutcherson are making a splash on the set of the Hunger Games sequel! The actors were photographed on the Hawaiian coast on Monday, shooting scenes for the 2013 film Catching Fire.
In the photos, taken on location in Maui, cast members can be seen wearing futuristic wet suits as they splash around in the waves. Of course, the scenes they're shooting take place in the watery Arena where the 75th Hunger Games takes place. One image shows Lawrence (who plays heroine Katniss Everdeen) standing atop her platform, presumably waiting for the Games to begin. Another shot shows her fellow District 12 competitor, Peeta Mellark (Hutcherson) submerged in the water, grasping his platform.
More photos show their costar Lynn Cohen (playing elderly Hunger Games champion Mags) wielding a spear, and actors Hutcherson and Sam Claflin playing a soggy scene together as Peeta and Finnick. Looks like the most exciting pool party ever!
In addition to the oceanic obstacle course, Catching Fire features a moment that fans have been eagerly awaiting: Peeta's proposal to Katniss. In an interview with MTV News, Hutcherson revealed that the big scene was nearly ruined by a wardrobe malfunction.
"The very first time I went to get down on one knee my pants ripped right down the crotch," Hutcherson recalled. "The worst thing that could happen when you're proposing to somebody is that your pants rip right down the crotch, and that's what happened to Peeta. So... he's doomed. He's doomed. Poor guy, he just can't catch a break."
Awkward moments aside, Hutcherson says he's very excited for the new film -- especially the games themselves, which will reportedly be shown in a larger-than-life format. "They're shooting, I think, all the stuff in the arena is going to be IMAX," Hutcherson said before he left for Hawaii. "So when you go see it in IMAX, you'll see the regular movie when we're in the Districts and in the Capitol. When you see us go up in the pod in the games, it will open up into IMAX. It will be amazing. It's very cool."
Sounds like we're all invited to that pool party after all!
