There's no denying that Jennifer Lopez and Tom Cruise's surprise hip-hop routine at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards had the crowd going wild. But the audience wasn't the only one impressed with the actor's moves! Lopez told Extra that she was absolutely floored by Cruise (who was dressed as his Tropic Thunder alter-ego Les Grossman) and his dedication to their performance.
"Working with Tom was amazing!" Lopez, 40, said. "I'm such a hard worker, and I'm kind of intense about my job. It's great to work with someone who is just as intense and passionate and crazy about getting everything right."
J.Lo says that it was Cruise who called her, about a month before the show, to try to convince her to join him on stage. According to Us Weekly, Cruise and Lopez only rehearsed together for the first time two days before the show.
"I said 'OK, we'd do a little mash-up of [Ludacris' "Get Back" and Lopez's "Get Right"]," the triple threat said. "I come out and sing a little and then we dance together. But [I told him] you have to learn this cane dance that I do in the video."
Lopez admits the dance routine was difficult, but Cruise pulled it off. "He really, really did it," she said. "And he did a great job! I was really proud of him."
And Cruise's portrayal of Les Grossman was such a hit that Paramount Pictures and MTV Films have confirmed their plans to make a movie centering on the hotheaded movie exec.
"Les Grossman's life story is an inspiring tale of the classic human struggle to achieve greatness against all odds," Ben Stiller, who will co-produce the film, said in a statement. "He has assured me he plans to quote, 'F**king kill the sh*t out of this movie and make Citizen f**king Kane look like a piece of crap home movie by the time we are done.' I am honored to be working with him."
