Jennifer Lopez's emotions are still raw when it comes to her previous relationships. During a Connecticut concert on Saturday night, Lopez burst into tears as she sang a song about lost love, accompanied by dancers dressed as her famous exes.
The American Idol judge had just finished performing her 1999 song "If You Had My Love" when things took a personal turn.
"I'm going to sing you the last song I wrote about love," Lopez, 42, told her audience. "A lot has changed since then."
She then launched into a rendition of "Until It Beats No More," with back-up dancers representing Lopez's former relationships performing in the background.. According to U.K. newspaper The Daily Mail, one J.Lo double wore a replica of her famous super-low-cut green Versace gown while dancing with a lookalike of P. Diddy, whom she dated in the late '90s. Another J.Lo wore a replica of the singer's 2003 Oscar gown while dancing with a Ben Affleck lookalike, while a third wore jeans alongside a dancer who resembled her ex-husband Cris Judd.
The most dramatic pair, however, were costumed to look like Lopez and estranged husband Marc Anthony at their May 2011 American Idol performance, which happened just weeks before they announced their separation. That may have been the thing that sent Lopez over the edge. When she finished singing, she reportedly said, "I took a trip down memory lane" -- and then began to cry.
"At the end of the song she started sobbing and had to take a few moments to keep it together," a witness told Radar Online. "She held it together for one song but then ran offstage crying. She only sang a few more songs and she was obviously out of it. Everyone was so sad for her. It was really dramatic."
In an interview airing Monday night on Extra, Lopez explains that it was seeing her mother Guadalupe in the audience that set her off. "I didn't see her the whole time until this one moment, and I was a bit emotional," the singer says.
She also talks about her choice to re-enact her past relationships on stage. "I wanted to do a section of the show that talked about love (and) different moments in my life," she says quite simply. "I have feelings and emotions. My life goes great and it goes not great sometimes. But you know what? We keep going, and that’s what it is."
Despite her unexpected display of emotion, Lopez seems to be moving on from Anthony, to whom she was married for seven years. The singer-actress has been spending a lot of time lately with single star Bradley Cooper, whom she was first spotted having dinner with in New York last month. Since then, she's been photographed trying to hide her face on a car ride with Cooper in Los Angeles, and subsequently Cooper reportedly flew to Florida just to pay her a visit!
"She does like his attention, and it makes her feel good that he seems so into her," a source told People. "She has a fun time with Bradley and he makes her laugh."
Sounds promising. We'd rather see J.Lo laughing than crying any day!
