Jennifer Lopez doesn’t seem like someone who gets dumped very often. Still, rumors are swirling about J.Lo’s breakup...with her record label.
The singer, 40, will not be releasing her next album (titled Love?) on Sony’s Epic Records label, according to Deadline Hollywood. The album was supposed to drop in April. So, what happened?
There are two versions of the story circulating. Lopez’s camp says that the decision was "mutual" and came out of a "heart-to-heart" talk between the versatile star and the CEO of her longtime label, Epic. But other reports claim the star has been unceremoniously dropped. One anonymous insider told Deadline Hollywood that the album’s lead single, "Louboutins" -- which J.Lo sang in a recent American Music Awards appearance remembered for its mid-performance stumble -- simply failed to become the hit that Epic Records had expected. Even worse: there are rumors that the album isn’t even close to finished.
Whatever the story, we’re confident that Lopez will make a full recovery; reportedly, she’s already talking to Island Def Jam about releasing Love? as soon as possible.
In the meantime, Lopez's promotion blitz -- despite the fact that she may no longer have an album to promote -- is in full swing on TV: the star playfully guest-hosted a recent episode of George Lopez' late-night variety show, Lopez Tonight, and she competed in last month's Celebrity Beach Bowl on Super Bowl weekend. And dabbling in sitcom territory, Lopez will soon appear on CBS' How I Met Your Mother as a bossy self-help author. On top of it all, she's hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend and doubling as musical guest. We’re not sure what songs she’ll perform on SNL, given the uncertainly of her album's future… maybe there's music from her upcoming romantic comedy, The Back-Up Plan, that she can sing, instead?
