In some ways, season 10 of American Idol will be a whole new show: two new judges, younger contestants (the lower age limit is now 15), online auditions, even shorter episodes. Then again, there are some things about America's favorite TV competition that nobody wants to change. For us, that includes a judge who's not afraid to tell the harsh truth -- the role that Simon Cowell played until his departure this year. So the big question is: Which of the judges will be the new Simon?
Right now, it's looking like it may be Jennifer Lopez. After her first full day of judging on Tuesday, Lopez, 41, told People that she was pushing the contestants harder than the judges ever had before.
"I really want to put them through the wringer," said Lopez, "in the sense that I don't want to let anybody who's really great go ... because they're nervous or whatever and not get to see what they could've been. We worked with them a little more than maybe you’ve seen in the past. We give them more of a chance.”
So if Lopez is the new Simon, does that make Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler the new Paula Abdul? The rock singer certainly has a wacky side; he'd have to, to wear those crazy spandex outfits onstage! But at the age of 62, he's lived through a lot, and he's not afraid to tell it like it is. We doubt he'll hold back when it comes to critiques -- and neither will Lopez, who promises to find a balance between "tough, easy and fair." So maybe they're both a little bit Paula and a little bit Simon. But will they fight like Paula and Simon? We can hardly wait until January to find out!
Do you think Jennifer Lopez will be as tough as Simon Cowell? Chime in below!
