Who-oa here she comes -- watch out boys, it's Jennifer Lopez! In the playful video for her new single "Papi," the singer-actress drives the men of Los Angeles wild with an accidental love charm. Watch it right here!
The video begins with a (relatively) frumpy Lopez, 42, staring longingly at her cell phone in the lobby of an L.A. hotel. As she goes to check her mail, the clerk notices her pining after the guy who won't call. She offers Lopez a heart-shaped cookie to eat, telling her, "Then your love will come back." The singer awkwardly takes a big bite, horrifying the clerk, who warns her that it's more powerful than she realizes.
Cut to the next morning, when Lopez emerges from the building wearing a fabulous outfit -- a cream-colored tied crop top and matching pleated shorts -- that would look terrible on any other human being. As she begins her day, we see men begin to spontaneously fall all over her: They break through windows, grab gifts from storefronts, crash their cars, and get into knock-out brawls on the sidewalk. Soon Lopez is trying to escape a full-blown riot. Then it finally dawns on her that she's the one causing the riot.
In the video's best moment, Lopez harnesses her newfound power to lead the lovesick gangs in a dance break, somewhat reminiscent of the similar scene in Michael Jackson's classic "Beat It" video. Lopez started out as a dancer, and an argument could be made that it's still what she does best. Check out her moves beginning at the 3:47 mark.
Even though her man comes back at the end, the video makes a strong statement about Lopez's post-Marc Anthony life. It's as if she's responding to her ex, a rumored control freak, by declaring that now she's in charge. And between the upcoming season of American Idol, her new clothing line for Kohl's and a couple of movies (What to Expect When You're Expecting and Parker) in the works, who could argue?
