Jenny Craig’s Newest Pitchman: George Costanza!

On Seinfeld, George Constanza has worn many hats: Hand model, assistant to the traveling secretary for the New York Yankees, screenwriter for “a show about nothing.” Now he’s adding Jenny Craig spokesperson to his resume.

Jason Alexander recently announced that he’ll be following in Phylicia Rashad’s, Kirstie Alley’s, Queen Latifah’s and Valerie Bertinelli’s skinnier footsteps and starring in the new Jenny Craig weight-loss campaign.

Alexander, 50, said the turning point for him came when he saw himself on screen in a Seinfeld reunion episode on Curb Your Enthusiasm. “I just got to a point where when I would look at the Seinfeld reunion stuff or one of these other projects that I had done, I said, ‘I don’t like the way that guy looks. That guy is not attractive in any way, shape or form to me.”

Asked why he thinks Jenny Craig will be the one to help him drop 30 to 40 pounds, he has said, “It's always been the same old story [when it comes to dieting]. The first 10 lbs were gone in a jiff, but then bam!!. Back again, and this time, they're back with a vengeance -- they even brought friends…It’s like someone’s clubbing me over the head. It’s so obvious I should be doing this. It was a deadly combination of I’m fat and [Jenny Craig] works.”

This isn’t the first time the comedian has worked as a spokesperson – he used to be the face of Kentucky Fried Chicken! Talk about a 180.

I have to say, I think J. Craig kinda hit the nail on the head with this one. Everyone loves George from Seinfeld – he’s hilarious, bumbling, confused, and totally relatable. As a viewer, I just get him, and that translates to his believability as a weight loss spokesperson. He looks like my dad…and I can see men like my dad looking at him and saying, “He looks just like me! If he can lose weight, so can I.” Although I’m not the biggest fan of dieting, I AM a fan of losing weight if it means getting healthy so I wish Jason Alexander luck and hope those Jenny Craig pretzels are not MAKING HIM THIRSTY!”
