Jenny Sanford, former first lady of South Carolina, appeared on The View today with some great news for anyone who's been hurt by a cheating husband. "There's life after divorce," she told told Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. "I've been divorced all of six weeks, and I'm dating someone already!"
While the others gushed and plied her with questions about her new man, the 47-year-old southern lady offered up some details. "He happens to be the neighbor I never knew," she said. "He lives four doors down the street. I'd never laid eyes on him until he showed up at a speech I gave...He's got kids. We have a whole pack of kids—seven between us. So we'll see."
"He hasn't gone hiking or anything, has he?" joked Behar--referring, of course, to her famously philandering husband, Mark Sanford, and his lie about hiking the Appalachian Trail. (He actually went to Buenos Aires to see his mistress.)
What a difference a few months has made for this steely political wife, who came off as poised but stiff during her first, post-scandal interview with Barbara Walters (while promoting her memoir, Staying True). Walters herself even acknowledged Sanford's lighter tone when the mom of four visited The View on February 8. “I interviewed you last fall," Walters said. "And you were so much less relaxed than you are now.” Sanford replied that she’d "come to a peace about things."
Sanford even chimed in during this always-feisty coffee klatsch, commenting on John Edwards' mistress, Rielle Hunter, who's stated that she didn't consider herself a homewrecker. "I think in both cases, whether it's Mark's mistress or Rielle Hunter, these girls are not 18," she said. "They knew what they were doing." Whoopi herself couldn't have said it any better.
