If you learned to count with a thick Romanian accent, you may want to pause and take a moment of silence in honor of Jerry Nelson, the man behind Count von Count.
The Sesame Street puppeteer who made a vampire Muppet loveable died Thursday at age 78. Nelson started on the PBS kiddie show in the 1970s, retiring in 2004, according to People. He also manned Fraggle Rock's Gobo, as well as various Muppet Show characters, including Camilla the Chicken (Gonzo's gal), Dr. Julius Strangepork of "Pigs in Space" fame, Kermit's nephew Robin and the Electric Mayhem band's Sgt. Floyd Pepper.
"They call me the Count because I love to count things," our early math teacher would say. And, though we're sad to hear the news (next to Grover, the Count was always our favorite) we still say thanks -- and a final, "AH AH AH AH AH!"
