There's no place like home. Like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, the beloved miscreants of MTV's Jersey Shore learned that lesson last season, when the cast relocated to Italy. "There was a lot of tension in [Italy], because we were away from our friends, away from our family, so all we had was each other -- that's it," Pauly D told MTV news last month.
And that's made their season 5 return to Seaside Heights, N.J., all the more sweet. This season's shenanigans, which begin Thursday, Jan. 5, at 10 p.m. ET, will feature less fighting and more partying. "You'll actually see how much we miss Jersey," said Pauly in a later MTV News interview. "Stuff you take for granted on a day-to-day basis, that's what we wanted to do. Haircut, gym, tanning." And according to Vinny, "We wanted easy girls."
Clearly, the group of friends will continue on as usual, making no apologies for who they are. It's already earned them tons of cash, from speaking engagements to record deals and TV guest spots to product endorsements.
So what can we expect this season from Snooki, Vinny, Deena, Pauly D, The Situation, J-Woww, Ronnie and Sammi? Here are a few tidbits.
Sammi and Ronnie have finally broken up. "You’re not going to see too much drama with us,” Sammi told the Chicago Sun-Times.
As for Snooki, she's ready to show off her hot, slimmed-down bod. "She looks great and she knows it," Vinny told the paper. "She’s lost a lot of weight and she’s looking like a little glamour model lately. That’s definitely different from the Snooki we’re used to."
The Situation will threaten to break up Snooki's relationship with boyfriend Jionni by revealing their pre-Italy hook-up. "Mike has always been that character -- kind of an egomaniac, kind of mischievous, a snake in the grass,” dished Vinny to the Sun-Times. "Do I think it’s 100 percent real? No, but that’s the character he has on the show. It’s who he is in that scenario. He’s actually a good kid deep down."
Pauly D will hook up with Snooki's best friend, Ryder, who has made guest appearances throughout the show's run. As Vinny helpfully points out, Ryder is now just one roommate away from "guido bingo." (That is, sleeping with four guys in one house.) Eww.
Vinny himself will bow out from the season briefly, though he hasn't left the show. "I was just exhausted and needed a break," he said. "There’s only so much partying I can do before I start to need different things."
Luckily for Jersey Shore fans, this doesn't seem to be a problem for the rest of the gang.
