For Hollywood ingé Jessica Alba, making the leap from television to the big screen meant trading a young, edgy hairstyle for a halo of sophisticated, tapered layers with lots of movement. We asked stylist Anthony Cristiano, creative director for Mario Tricoci Salons, how you can achieve this up-and-coming star's signature sexy, textured style.
STEP 1 If you have colored-treated hair like Jessica Alba, opt for a moisturizing shampoo. Begin with a gentle scalp massage, using the balls of your fingers to loosen dirt and stimulate the scalp. After cleansing the scalp, squeeze shampoo down the hair. Rinse.
STEP 2 Using a wide-toothed comb, apply conditioner from roots to ends and leave on for three to five minutes. Rinse. Towel-dry hair to remove as much moisture as possible.
STEP 3 Flip your head upside down and apply a volumizing product at the base of the hair shaft and gently work it through to the ends. Lift your head and split hair into four sections and create an irregular, zigzag middle-front part. This will help to create more height at the crown.
STEP 4 Beginning at the back of your head, blow-dry hair in half-inch pieces using a large round brush. To create extra volume, hold brush in the hair near the scalp until the hair cools (about five seconds), then move the brush down and through to the ends of the hair.
STEP 5 For additional shine apply a flatiron to the hair and finish by working a dime-sized dollop of silicon-based product through hair with your fingers.
