"I am extremely, extremely happy for him," Simpson, 30, told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show Thursday morning. "I don't know where all those rumors came from. My mom actually called me and said that everyone was saying that I was 'saddened.' I was just in complete shock. I couldn't be more happy for Nick."
And although Simpson and Lachey aren't necessarily friendly (they didn't speak while dining at the same restaurant), Simpson says, "I wish them nothing but the best."
Simpson also wishes, however, that the general public would recognize that she and Lachey have been divorced for over five years. "You know, our relationship was over a really long time ago," Simpson says. "So it would be nice if everybody could move on with us and just really celebrate the love between him and Vanessa."
Fortunately, Simpson has a love of her own to celebrate as well -- her boyfriend, former NFL player Eric Johnson. "He's a really smart guy, and Jessica really loves him," the singer's brother-in-law, Pete Wentz, told People. "I think that's the most important thing, seeing her happy," he added.
