After five months of dating football player Eric Johnson, Jessica Simpson is officially head over heels! Simpson, who recently returned from a trip to the Middle East, told People that she's just crazy about the ex-NFL player.
"As far as Eric and I go, we're just best friends," Simpson, 30, gushes. "He's my dude! I love him."
Simpson adds that the relationship is refreshingly "normal," and that she "couldn't ask for a better man in my life right now." However, she stops short of saying that Johnston is The One.
"I never go to that because I already went there, so, I'm not gonna jinx my own self," says the one-time Newlyweds star. "He's the one for me right now! I'm very happy, I'm in a great place and if right now could last forever, I'd take it."
Johnson supported his lady by showing up at a taping of her upcoming PBS Christmas special on Thursday... wearing an outfit that was a little out of character.
Unfortunately, that same show has created some controversy for the Simpson family -- more specifically, for Jessica's micromanaging dad Joe Simpson. According to the New York Post's Page Six, Jessica was supposed to do a number with The 4Troops, a singing group made up of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. However, Joe complained that the group didn't show up in tuxedos, allegedly saying that their camo pants and blazers were too casual for the cameras. The group claims that they waited around for six hours to perform, only to learn that their number had been cut.
"I am so disappointed and angry, I threw up when I got back to my room," said 4Troops member Sgt. Daniel Jens.
Jessica's rep tells the paper that the song was simply cut for time, and "Jessica wasn't even aware." Jessica, indeed, has always been a big supporter of the troops; earlier this month, she took a trip to the Middle East to perform for U.S. soldiers, even though she was sick and vomiting. Maybe the whole thing was a misunderstanding -- but it sounds like she owes 4Troops a moment onstage during her next tour!
