At a size 4 (or a size 6 if she's gained a pound or two), Jessica Simpson is a far cry from overweight. But when the the curvy pop star was snapped last year wearing a pair of ill-advised, high-waisted jeans, her name flooded the headlines along with the f-word: Fat.
"I was so insecure after people had pretty much taken me down," the 29-year-old singer, who stars in the new VH1 docu-series The Price of Beauty (premiering Monday) tells iVillage.
Simpson says being attacked by the tabloids inspired her to explore the real meaning of beauty. So, she set off on an around-the-world journey with her best friend CaCee Cobb and hairstylist Ken Paves to rebuild her self-esteem and discover how different cultures approach beauty.
"I really didn't expect to come home feeling so confident and so empowered," she says. "At this moment I feel like people can say whatever they want to say about me, and it will not affect me."
Watch our exclusive video interview to hear about the weirdest beauty ritual Simpson encountered and what she hopes to share with her future kids someday.
