While introducing Jessica Simpson on Wednesday's show, Ellen DeGeneres said what we were all thinking: "Please welcome the always-pregnant Jessica Simpson!" The Fashion Star mentor has been rocking maternity wear for over a year now, between her first pregnancy with daughter Maxwell (born May 1, 2012) and her current bun in the oven. Even she's not sure how that happened!
"I don't know, apparently protection was just thrown out the window," Simpson laughed on Ellen. "I mean, we're happy. We were definitely extremely shocked."
We can only imagine! Since we weren't there for the big moment (oh Jessica, why did you stop doing reality TV?), we've staged a little animated GIF reenactment of how Jessica might have responded to her second-baby news.
At first, we'd imagine, she just didn't believe it. 
Then she realized it wasn't a joke.
She was so shocked that the shoe fell off her head. 
But then she realized, hey, at least she could laugh about it.
And she and Eric Johnson opened some non-alcoholic sparkling cider to celebrate. The end!
As much as the baby news surprised Simpson, she was even more surprised at how different her second pregnancy is from her first. "With Maxwell, I felt amazing, like I could do everything, eat everything," she told DeGeneres. "Do whatever I wanted. I had a lot of energy. This time around … I'm exhausted. Eating Tums. That's my snack of choice."
