Jessica Simpson isn't due until the spring, but she's already thinking ahead to her post-baby fitness plan. On Tuesday, the pregnant singer tweeted that she has a new mommy fitness idol: Jessica Alba.
"New goal: look like @jessicaalba after baby," Simpson, 31, wrote in response to some very impressive bikini shots of Alba making the Internet rounds. "Job well done lady!"
Alba, 30, was flattered by the praise, tweeting back, "OMG! Ur so sweet! Thx hon!"
Jessica Simpson has her work cut out for her, since Jessica Alba looks amazing after having two daughters (Honor Marie, 3, and Haven Garner, 5 months). It's certainly possible that Simpson was merely paying her pal a compliment, but we hope she realizes that having Alba's body may not be the right goal for her. The two Jessicas have opposite body types: Alba is naturally tall and lean with very defined muscles (an ectomorph), while Simpson is shorter and curvier (an endomorph).
In other words, Simpson's body isn't likely to ever look like Alba's. And that's okay, because Jessica has an enviable body, too. But between her tweet to Jessica Alba, and her rumored Weight Watchers deal, we're a little concerned that Simpson may be trying to get rid of her famous curves altogether. And that would be sad, because she's worked so hard to have success on her own terms, regardless of her weight fluctuations.
We love how she responded to tabloid ridicule by questioning why everyone cared so much in the first place. Her VH1 show The Price of Beauty may not have been a hit, but her heart was in the right place. And her refreshing attitude gained her tons of new fans, which is one reason that her clothing line (which caters to women of all sizes) has been a runaway success.
We understand Simpson's concern about getting in shape after the baby; every new mom has been there. But we'd hate to lose Simpson as an advocate for women who love their curves. We'd like to see her get to a healthy post-baby weight without shrinking to an impossibly tiny size. Some of us will never look like Jessica Alba, and the fashion magazines may never understand that -- but we'd like to think that Jessica Simpson does.
