iVillage Woman of the Week: Jessica Simpson

We applaud the singer for taking the high road about John Mayer -- and celebrating real beauty

Each week we pick one woman who's done something to make us proud. This week we're loving Jessica Simpson for promoting inner beauty and for keeping it classy when ex-boyfriend John Mayer clearly needed an etiquette lesson.

Last month the attention-hungry bad-boy musician blabbed about his sexual past to Playboy, describing Simpson as "sexual napalm" and comparing his desire to sleep with her to a drug addiction. On Wednesday Simpson had a sitdown with Oprah Winfrey and got her chance to respond to Mayer's crass remarks. But instead of bashing her ex, she kept her comments polite and civilized. "There's nothing worse than being disappointed in somebody," she said. "I'm not angry. I'm...well, I'm a little bit angry. I don't want people to know how I am in bed."

Simpson made her point and quickly moved on to the more important topic -- her new VH1 show, The Price of Beauty. The reality program, which explores perceptions of beauty around the world, was inspired by the tabloids' cruel remarks about her body. "The fact that I was famous last year for gaining 10 lbs. -- it's ridiculous and it's really sad."

In her round-the-world journey, Simpson faced many of her fears -- such as walking in a fashion show in Paris -- and discovered new cultures. The result? She realized that real beauty is on the inside. And that's a message that deserves to be shared.
