Jessica Simpson is turning 30 on Saturday -- and she'll be celebrating the new decade with a brand new guy! The lucky man? Eric Johnson, 30, a pro football player who was formerly a tight end for the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints. The couple has reportedly been dating since May, and according to friends, Simpson "is happy that she found a great guy. She's really happy."
Could this new relationship mean true love for Jessica Simpson? The pop star had been single since Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo broke up with her on her birthday, almost exactly one year ago. The couple was together since 2007, during which time Romo's football scores went down the tubes -- and Simpson got the blame, with angry Cowboys fans nicknaming her "Yoko Romo." You'd think that would be enough to scare Simpson off football players for life. But it seems that her new beau's NFL days may be behind him: Johnson was dropped from the Saints in 2008 because of an ankle injury, and although he's still technically a free agent, he hasn't played since. Football record aside, another aspect of their relationship is raising eyebrows: Johnson divorced his wife in February, just three months before he started dating Simpson.
Whether it's a rebound or the real deal, Simpson certainly seems cheered up: her Twitter feed from July 3 read simply, "O HAPPY DAY!!!" She also posted a Marilyn Monroe quote a few days earlier: "sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together." Is Eric Johnson a "better thing" than her former beaus, Romo and John Mayer?
