Jillian Michaels has been open about her desire to start a family, and The Biggest Loser trainer is well on her way to making her dreams come true. Michaels, 37, says she is in the process of adopting a baby from the Congo.
"My dossier, which is your paperwork portfolio, is in to the Democratic Republic of the Congo," Michaels told Us Weekly, Monday in N.Y.C. at the National Magazine Awards. "So the paperwork is done, and now it’s just a waiting game."
The fitness fanatic says that she could become a mom with very little warning.
"It could be six months, 12 months; it could be two years. Or, it could be tomorrow! They call you and they say, 'Oh, we have your referral,' which is essentially the child they match you up with, and you go overseas and you get him or her."
Michaels announced earlier this year that she would be leaving her role on The Biggest Loser and had set her sights on the challenges of parenting.
"I'm going to adopt," she said in an interview last spring with Women's Health magazine. "I can't handle doing that to my body. Also, when you rescue something, it's like rescuing a part of yourself."
In addition to her new role as a mom, Michaels has signed on to join the expert panel of TV's syndicated series The Doctors, and she "couldn't be more excited."
Sounds like Jillian is about to have a very full plate. But, from what we've seen of this tough cookie, there's nothing she can't handle!
