Jimmy Fallon to Host 2010 Emmys

The funnyman says NBC "told me" about the prestigious hosting gig, emceeing the ceremony for TV's biggest night of the year

Jimmy Fallon has come a long way from that Weekend Update desk at Saturday Night Live. The late-night talk-show host may have just scored his biggest gig to date, as he's just been asked to host the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards on NBC.

“Hosting the Emmys has been a dream of mine ever since they told me I was doing it,” Fallon quipped.

The funnyman, who played host in 2001 for the MTV Movie Awards and in 2002 for the MTV Video Music Awards, will be following in the very big footsteps of last year's host, Neil Patrick Harris. But network execs have plenty of confidence in Fallon's ability to entertain.

“Jimmy was the natural choice as one of the most promising and likable young entertainers who will now have the chance to display his many talents on television’s biggest night,” said NBC Universal executive vice president Paul Telegdy. “His proven skills as a comedian and host -- as well as his openness to new ideas -- will fully engage audiences and ultimately deliver a lively Emmy telecast.”

“Jimmy has many talents. He can sing, he can dance, he does impersonations, and he does it gracefully and with ease,” said exec-producer Don Mischer. “I think he’ll make a terrific host, and we are really looking forward to working with him.”

The 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air Sunday, Aug. 29 on NBC.
