As speculation on what will become of the American Idol judges' panel continues to swirl (Harry Connick Jr.! Steven Tyler! Bret Michaels!), a new name has been thrown into the ring. A source close to the show says that country star Shania Twain is on the producers' radar to fill one of the coveted seats on the talent competition's 10th season.
“They’ve been after her ever since she was a mentor on the show last season,” an insider told People.com. “And they haven’t given up.”
Negotiations with Jennifer Lopez are rumored to have fallen through due to her plethora of demands, and Twain could be a more low-maintenance choice. She stepped in to help out last season during the Chicago auditions and “everyone thought she was a great addition to the judges’ table,” a show source said at the time. She also appeared on the show as a mentor to contestants in April.
"Shania’s a huge fan of the show and she had a great time as a mentor,” the source said.
Twain’s rep had no comment on any of the Idol talk.
