NSD: What was your big turning point-either during the show or before that made you realize you needed to lose the weight?
I was wearing a 6XL button up shirt and the buttons were about to pop off when I sat down. Also, just walking to my truck to go to work and my foot breaks just from weight.
NSD: What is one thing you wish you had known before going on The Biggest Loser?
The emotional reasons why I gained weight in the first place.
NSD: Did you think it’s harder or easier to be on the show with a family member as a teammate as opposed to competing by yourself? NSD: What is one thing that keeps you motivated? NSD: What is your favorite workout? NSD: What's the best advice Bob or Jillian has given you? NSD: What is your favorite meal or snack? NSD: What's something viewers at home wouldn't know from watching the show?
It’s a tough question. My brother and I naturally push each other, but I think a big realization you have to come to is this whole experience has to be about fixing what is wrong with yourself and the more you can focus on that, the better off you will be, and therefore be more capable of helping others.
NSD: If you could have done one thing differently during the show, what would it be?
Stick to what was working for me at the time, which was the pool and walking.
NSD: What was the hardest thing to adapt to while being on the ranch?
Definitely not being able to talk to or see my family. It was overwhelming at times.
I have my original shirt for The Biggest Loser on my wall in my room. All I have to do is look at it and how much wall space it takes up and I’m ready to workout. As far as junk food, I’ve done really well. If I’m going to put in the effort to work my butt off at the gym in the morning and my MMA training in the afternoon, I will not waste all that effort by turning to junk food.
Fast-paced punching and blocking combinations. It is exhausting, but so much fun!
Basically to just never quit no matter how much it hurts. I really liked the advice I got from Sandy (our athletic trainer/medic on the ranch.) It sounds simple but it really works, simply put: Never stop moving! Whether it be walking or standing up at work, moving your legs, contracting muscles, really anything. Those small things burn more calories during the day and for a big guy, really adds up at the end of the week. I got to the point where if I wasn’t moving it was because I was sleeping.
I love any kind of fish and asparagus in the NuWave oven.
I’m extremely competitive and refuse to quit at anything!
