Captain America has the potential to follow Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man as the next great superhero franchise -- so it's no wonder that hot young Hollywood talents like Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford and Tron Legacy's Garrett Hedlund are reportedly lining up to audition. But, according to one insider, the role has practically been cast....
....and the part of Captain America will almost certainly go to John Krasinski. Yes, that would be the same actor who plays lovable wise guy (and new dad) Jim Halpert on NBC's The Office. And while we share in the nation's collective Jim crush, the casting rumor is a bit perplexing. According to Marvel comics lore, Captain America is supposed to be a government-created super-soldier, a "perfect specimen" who's faster and stronger than any man. Krasinski, 30, embodies more of an everyman.
Maybe they're going for a Tobey Maguire-as-Spider-Man kind of thing. Should the rumor prove true, Krasinski will have some serious bulking up to do! In the meantime, here are three unique superpowers we'd like to suggest to the screenwriters, if indeed the Office star ends up donning Captain America's tights...
Super sarcasm! Able to deliver ironic quips at the speed of sound.
Prank power! Villains, beware: you won't seem so scary once your death ray is encased in Jell-o and your secret headquarters has been surreptitiously moved into the men's room.
Ultra awkwardness! With a supersonic gift for blunt remarks, inappropriate crushes and painful grimaces, the new Captain America can create tension wherever he goes.
PLUS: Jim Halpert becomes a first-time dad on The Office!
