John Mayer is gracing the cover of the new Rolling Stone -- and opening up about his split from Jennifer Aniston. It seems the sensitive singer is still reeling from the end of his on-again, off-again relationship with America's Sweetheart. "I’ve never really gotten over it," John told the mag. "It was one of the worst times of my life.”
Mayer and Aniston began dating in 2008, and got serious quickly before breaking up and getting back together (their final breakup was in March 2009). All of which, John hints, was his fault.
"I'm the a-hole," he says. "I burned the American flag. I basically murdered an ideal."
But now, Mayer says, he's comparing all the women he meets to those he's previously dated.
"I met a girl one time in Vegas. Her name was Dimples, and the 's' in Dimples was a dollar sign," he tells Rolling Stone. "I have this weird feeling, a pride thing, for the people I’ve had relationships with. I still feel like I’m with them, in the sense that if I f---ed Dimples, what does that say about someone like Jen? I feel like it’s all connected. How could I ever cosmically relate these two people?"
He adds: "What would I be saying to Jen, who I think is f---ing fantastic, if I said to her, ‘I don’t dislike you. In fact, I like you extremely well. But I have to back out of this because it doesn’t arc over the horizon. This is not where I see myself for the rest of my life, this is not my ideal destiny,’ and then I see myself f---ing Dimples? What does that say for my case?”
Mayer certainly doesn't hold back in his interview with the music mag, discussing everything from masturbation to Tiger Woods. And spicy revelations aside, his shirtless photos may be reason enough to pick up the issue.
