We don't know much about Johnny Depp's longtime girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, other than that she's French, a model-actress and maybe the luckiest woman in the world. The mother of the actor's two children has given a rare interview to Marie Claire UK in which she lists all the things she loves about Depp -- as if we weren't jealous enough already. We weren't too shocked to hear that Depp, 47, is thoughtful, loyal and a good father. But we were surprised to hear what Paradis, 37, names as the secret to a successful relationship: time apart.
"The fact that we're not together every day plays a big part in keeping our relationship stable," says Paradis. "We understand that, if we want our relationship to continue, we must give each other space, allow each other to go off on our own, and trust each other... You're really lucky if you find someone you can trust when you spend time apart."
That philosophy may be unorthodox, but it sounds pretty sensible for a relationship between two entertainers with busy lives. Depp's close friend and frequent director Tim Burton also values his space, going so far as to live in two separate (but connected) houses with partner Helena Bonham Carter and their children. Other celebs who value separate lives include Oprah Winfrey (whose partner Stedman Graham has a robust life of his own) and Dolly Parton (whose longtime husband Carl Dean stays far from her spotlight).
Paradis' declaration of trust flies in the face of that eyebrow-raising rumor from March: that she was afraid he'd leave her after filming a sex scene with Angelina Jolie.
