Where would we be without our beloved local boutiques? In everyone-looks-the-same land, that's where! If there was no such thing as My Inheritance, a vintage store in Upper Montclair, NJ, my wardrobe would be doomed. I also can't get enough of Emerson Made, an online store that was once a one-woman operation in New York City (now a two-person team), that creates unique clothes and accessories for both men and women. These are the little engines that could, and not only should we be grateful for the many distinct style finds stores like these have given us, our economy might owe them a thing or two, too.
What's In It for You?
In an effort to support the small businesses that are getting our economy going again, American Express is giving registered card members a $25 statement credit when they shop at small businesses on Small Business Saturday! So join the movement on November 27 by shopping at your favorite mom-and-pop operations. Don't forget to tell all of your spending pals!
What's In It for Businesses?
Business owners can sign up on Facebook to promote the initiative and get involved. The first 10,000 who do so will receive $100 of free Facebook advertising to help build online buzz and drive customers to shop at their businesses. So good luck, businesses!
What's In It for the Future?
For every person who "likes" Small Business Saturday on Facebook, $1 (up to $500,000) will be donated to Girls Inc., an organization that empowers and encourages young women to become entrepreneurs. You go, girls!
