Jon Gosselin has something important to say to his ex-wife Kate Gosselin: "I'm sorry."
Three years after the couple battled it out in a headline-making divorce, Jon admits that he behaved inappropriately toward Kate following their acrimonious split.
"I am sorry, because I did stuff I wouldn't want done to me," he tells People, referring to the women he dated after the breakup.
Jon says he and Kate -- who starred in the popular reality series Jon and Kate Plus 8 together on TLC -- are getting along much better now, and he takes responsibility for how his actions led to their divorce.
"I was passive-aggressive," the 35-year-old father of eight says. "Then I'd get mad, but I was the one who wasn't communicating."
But now the two are more open with each other and have worked out a way to co-parent their kids, he says.
"I'll call her up and say, 'Mady's sick. What do I do?' And she'll tell me," he says. "She's a great mom. We just have different parenting styles."
In 2011, Gosselin moved back to Berks County, Pa., after two years of living in various cities, including Manhattan. He's currently working as director of sales and promotions for Gameface International and is dating Liz Jannetta, 27.
Gosselin says he's changed his perspective and is more contemplative about his role as a father.
"I used to talk to Rabbi Shmuley Boteach (Michael Jackson's rabbi) a lot when I lived in New York," he says. "He said, 'There are two things you can do with your fame -- sell out or take it and use it for good.' I didn't grasp that at the time."
