Kate Gosselin may be bummed that TLC has canceled Kate Plus 8, the show that chronicles the 36-year-old's life as a single mom to eight children -- but her ex-husband Jon Gosselin, 34, doesn't share the sentiment. In fact, Jon tells Radar Online that he is "very relieved" for his kids that the reality show is finally ending.

"Contracts have to end at some point," says Gosselin, who learned of the show's cancelation via press release. "I think everything had run its course and it was time to come to an end anyways."

The eight children -- 10-year-old twins Cara and Maddie and 7-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel -- have grown up in front of the cameras. Jon and Kate Plus 8 debuted in April 2007, and immediately garnered a passionate following. When Jon and Kate's marriage began to deteriorate in 2009, the game changed. Jon left the show, which was then renamed Kate Plus 8, and a messy divorce proceeding began. Though ratings soared at the time, the show lost some of its luster afterward.

With the series airing its final episode on Sept. 12, Jon is optimistic that his children will be able to live more normal lives. "I hope (my kids) can have more private family moments," he says. "I hope that this will bring more privacy to my children and that they can get the proper attention they need for any personal issues they might have in the future."

Kate and Jon appear to have worked out their differences for the good of the kids, and while their public comments about one another may not be warm and friendly, they are at least not openly hostile.

In a clip from Monday night's episode of Kate Plus 8, Kate goes so far as to say she has no regrets. "I know that I'm glad to be divorced and on my own," Kate says. "I wouldn't change my marriage because I have eight awesome kids that I would not change. But people change and they're not who you thought they were and if they're not for you, move on. And I have." (Watch the clip below.)

So what does Jon think Kate will do in the wake of the show's cancellation? "I have no clue," he admits. "I hope she dedicates more time to the kids now and I wish her the best as she goes forward with whatever career she wants to pursue."
