Jon & Kate Inspire New 'Law & Order' Episode

There’s no escaping the drama that is Jon and Kate Gosselin.

Law & Order, known for their "ripped from the headlines" episodes, will feature an episode on Oct. 16 loosely based on the stars of the TLC reality show, Kate Plus 8 (formerly Jon & Kate Plus 8).

In the episode titled "Reality Bites," two families compete in order to get their own reality show. Larry Johnson is the father of 10 adopted special needs children and he’s competing against Belinda Alvarez, an Octomom lookalike who has 10 kids of her own through in-vitro fertilization. Johnson’s wife, Joy, is murdered, leaving him as one of the suspects.

"It seems to be coming at a good time," Law & Order executive producer Rene Balcer told TVGuide.com. "Aside from people being amused, bemused, disgusted and shocked at their exploits, [people] are probably looking for some other perspective on it."

While the Gosselin’s might have influenced next Friday’s episode, they weren't the original inspiration.

"The original inspiration was the murder of the couple in Florida who had a whole house full of special-needs kids that they had adopted and they had nothing to do with reality TV," says Balcer. "As we started working on that story, all the stuff with Jon & Kate Plus 8, the Octomom and those couple of other shows with families with multiples started to feed into that."

This sounds like it has all of our guilty obsessions over the past year wrapped into one juicy episode. A part of me thinks that neither Jon nor Kate will be setting their DVR’s to record this.
