While all of this Jon & Kate Gosselin drama seems to have come on pretty suddenly in the last few months, their divorce papers have us wondering how long things have been terrible for these two.
In the papers filed Monday in a Pennsylvania court, Kate refers to her 10-year marriage as "irretrievably broken" and checked a box indicating that she and Jon have been living "separate and apart" for at least two years.
Um, what? Then what have we been watching on TLC for the last four seasons?
But legal experts say that the filing doesn't mean that Jon and Kate haven't been living in the same house -- just that there had been plenty of problems and unhappiness way before this all blew up in the media. Which really comes as no surprise to anyone who was watching. -- Jon always looked like a miserable, beaten man sitting next to Kate on that couch.
According to a divorce attorney, Kate's filing has to do with, yup, cash. In Pennsylvania, any money that Kate made while she and Jon were "separated" belongs to her -- and she's the one who's been working it with her book deals and personal appearances.
But Kate will have to prove that she and Jon were no longer living like they were married for all that time -- which could be difficult considering they have a television show chronicling their family life.
It always comes down to the money, doesn't it? Which is especially sad when these people have eight kids. Ugh.
