Jon Gosselin attempted to make nice to ex Kate Gosselin over the weekend by bringing a bouquet of roses to their Saturday arbitration hearing at a Pennsylvania courthouse.
The reality TV couple met up on Saturday to discuss the details of their divorce, including the custody of their eight children and the division of assets. Jon and Kate cut what was supposed to be a two-day meeting down to just five-and-a-half hours on Saturday, and an arbitrator is expected to rule within 30 days, making it possible for the Gosselins' divorce to be final by year's end.
"This was the proceeding that essentially ended their marriage," a pal told People.com. "Kate is just relieved that a very painful chapter of her life is nearly over, and she is looking forward to building a better, brighter future for herself and her kids."
As for Jon's attempt to win Kate over with the flowers -- well, it didn't really go over so well, as his ex left the courthouse empty-handed.
"In what should have been their most serious moment as a couple," said the insider, "Jon again resorted to a publicity stunt."
The series finale of Jon & Kate Plus 8 airs tonight on TLC.
