Jon Said, Kate Said

Jon and Kate Gosselin have been on a media blitz lately, each trying to put his/her best face forward to sway public opinion in his/her favor. Here's the latest on-the-record words from each side of the most public breakup in recent memory.

Kate: In an interview for the Sept. 7th issue of People magazine Kate says she's so baffled by her estranged husband's behavior (see, for instance, his Vegas weekend frolic with a bunch of bikini babes), that she thinks he may have been abducted by aliens:

"Call me crazy, but deep down I still have this hope that one morning the phone will ring and it will be him, back to normal, just saying, 'Hey, how are you,' or even, 'Okay, that was really weird; aliens overtook me, but now I'm back.' I didn't know how to describe it for a long time, but that explanation seems to work: Aliens have taken him away."

Jon: In a recently taped a segment with Good Morning America that is slated to air sometime next week, Jon lashes out at the very "media" that he's been using to get his message out. According to E! Online, Jon insinuates in the new interview that it is the media -- not he or Kate -- who have exploited the Gosselin children. But, seemingly fearing repercussions from what might be perceived as a slight against his meal-ticket TV network, Jon quickly responded to today's E! story with the following quote.

"I'm not saying TLC is exploiting my children. But I do believe the media and tabloids covering my family and the show for their own financial gain are the ones exploiting them."
