In a bleak time for soap operas, at least General Hospital is still standing. But sadly, it's about to lose one of its most popular characters, according to TV Guide. Jackson has already gained some notoriety outside of the show. He starred on the big screen in the 2002 Disney movie, Tuck Everlasting, among several other films. But he's spent nearly ten years playing Lucky, from 1993 to 1998, and then again from 2009 until now. He's won four Daytime Emmys for the role. And it was on the GH set that he met his wife, Lisa Vultaggio, who played Hannah Scott between 1999 and 2001.
Why the decision to go? Jackson hasn't released a statement, and a spokesperson for the ABC soap told TV Guide that "we can neither confirm nor deny" that he was leaving. But according to unnamed sources, Jackson is exhausted from a grueling work schedule and some creative differences with
GH execs. Despite his requests, they failed to lighten his load and shot down his suggestion to reteam Lucky with Liz (Rebecca Herbst). Jackson is expected to be off the air by mid-to-late December.
So now the question is: What sort of exit will Lucky make? The sky's the limit in the world of soap operas, or at least in Port Charles -- where years ago, Lucky's parents had to endure a sci-fi storyline involving summertime blizzards caused by "carbonic snow." And Laura herself seemingly died and was reincarnated at least once or twice.
Will Lucky meet an irreversible death? Crazier things have happened.
