Joseph Gordon-Levitt has unleashed his inner rock star! On Tuesday's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the clean-shaven, polite star of 50/50 showed that he's a wild man -- specifically, Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose -- when he picks up a karaoke microphone. Watch below for video of Gordon-Levitt rocking his dead-on Axl impersonation, while Jimmy Fallon channels David Bowie!
Fallon says he first discovered Gordon-Levitt's talent for impressions during a night of post-taping karaoke.
"We're friends outside the show," he explained. "At one point, we were doing this thing where any karaoke song that came on, we were doing impressions... He does the best Axl Rose."
"When drunk, at karaoke," Gordon-Levitt clarified.
But when challenged to do Axl in front of a live audience -- to the tune of Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," no less! -- Gordon-Levitt delivered. He stumbled a little during Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory," but he clearly didn't know the song too well. And it's not like Axl Rose hasn't slurred a line or two in his time!
Fallon's Bowie-esque rendition of Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" was pretty wonderful, too -- especially his addition of "in space" to the chorus. (Very Flight of the Conchords, no?) Of course, we already knew about Jimmy's knack for impersonation. That talent is what landed him the SNL gig that led him to stardom (watch his audition here!), and it has found an excellent showcase on his late-night chat show. But if Fallon's Bowie is good, his Neil Young (see below) is legendary.
As for Gordon-Levitt, when is he going to do a musical already? After seeing his karaoke performance in (500) Days of Summer and now his Axl impersonation, we think the producers of Rock of Ages missed a golden opportunity!
