Transformers star Josh Duhamel is on a roll. He's enjoying a red-hot movie career, with five upcoming films in the works; he's married to sexy Black Eyed Peas pop star Fergie; and hist latest turn in the Transformers series, Dark of the Moon, hits theaters June 29.But that won't keep Josh from making a brief return to the now-canceled ABC soap opera that gave him his start in the business, All My Children.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Duhamel will appear in an episode or two of AMC in August as his old character, Leo du Pres. Sure, du Pres supposedly died back in 2002. Like any true, tragic soap hero, he fell over a cliff while trying to save his beloved wife Greenlee (Rebecca Budig) from his insanely evil mother Vanessa (Marj Dusay). But... his body was never found!
Granted, such a brief reappearance can't be a big part of the storyline, especially with All My Children going off the air for good just one month later, sometime in September. But the cameo seems to be more of a wink to old fans, and a way for Duhamel to say "thank you" for giving him his first national TV gig. He won a daytime Emmy for the role in 2002.
The show's writers will have their work cut out for them, of course. Greenlee certainly hasn't remained alone and celibate for these last eight years! At the moment, she is with her on-again-off-again love Ryan (Cameron Mathison). Leo's reappearance will be tricky to incorporate into the story. But if anyone can do it, it's soap opera writers!
Who knows? Maybe they'll have even more former stars to inject into their final plot lines. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Christian Slater, Kelly Ripa and Kim Delaney all got their starts on All My Children as well. They, too, might want to show their appreciation. What a fun way that would be to usher the show out! Fingers crossed...
