Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger have been one of the cutest, most affectionate celebrity couples ever since they got together back in 2006, causing many to wonder whether the happily unmarried pair would, well, ever marry. Thanks to a $45,000 necklace that Jackson, 33, bought for Kruger, 35, at a charity event in Monaco, we might (or might not) have our answer.
The Fringe actor and Inglorious Basterds actress took a break from walking Cannes Film Festival red carpets to head to Monte Carlo Wednesday for Prince Albert and former President Bill Clinton's "Nights in Monaco" charity dinner (to benefit their respective foundations). Benefit officials said that while there Jackson placed a winning $45,000 bid on a Carla Amorim necklace. Now here's where things get interesting: According to People, Jackson was overheard telling other benfit-goers that the necklace was an engagement present!
If you've been rooting for these two crazy kids to take the plunge, however, don't get too excited just yet. Sources close to the couple tell People that the engagement buzz isn't true. (But, hey, maybe Josh and Diane just haven't told them yet!)
Kruger was previously married to French actor Guillaume Canet, but the two split after five years together back in 2006, shortly before she began dating Jackson (who's never been married).
In past interviews, Kruger has suggested that the crumbling of her union with Canet had soured her on the idea of matrimony. "Without sounding pessimistic, I learned that I don't believe in marriage," she told Glamour in 2011. "I believe in a commitment that you make in your heart. There's no paper that will make you stay. A guy friend of mine said, and it made a lot of sense, that people should get married at the end of the road, not the beginning."
In other words, don't hold your breath waiting for the couple to take the plunge -- especially since they appear 100 percent happy just the way they are. Still, we're sure Diane isn't too upset to have that new $45K necklace.
