When Josie Duggar was delivered by emergency C-section in December, she was three months early and weighed less than one-and-a-half pounds. It was a nightmare for a mother who had already delivered 18 children without complications. But the 19th child of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar has proven to be one tough cookie: after four months in intensive care, she's gained more than three pounds, can breathe without oxygen, and is ready to come home.
Well, not exactly home. The Duggars have relocated to a rental property in Little Rock, Ark. (about three hours from their Tontitown house) in order to keep Josie close to Arkansas Children's Hospital. Being the Duggars, they brought the whole family along, including the littlest siblings, who have yet to meet the miracle baby.
Jackson, 5, Johanna, 4, Jennifer, 2, and Jordyn, 1, are "jumping up and down that they will finally get to meet their baby sister," Michelle told People. Older siblings Joshua, Jana, Jon-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James and Justin -- whose ages range from 7 to 22 -- have all visited Josie in the hospital.
Even though Josie is now joining the family, she still needs extra attention -- and precautions. "The little ones will have to be careful with slobbery kisses to prevent any colds and sniffles," Michelle notes. And to replace the 24-hour care of NICU nurses, Michelle is enlisting volunteers. "I will be her main caregiver, and we'll have a lot of helpers around to take turns feeding her and getting her to sleep."
"We are grateful for the prayers of thousands," says Jim Bob of the baby's amazing recovery. And those thousands can tune in to see the new addition come home on the inevitable TLC special, 19 Kids and Counting: Josie Comes Home. It's airing on May 9th.
