We knew that The View's Sherri Shepherd was tying the knot this weekend -- but who knew that cohost Joy Behar also had marriage on the brain? On Aug. 11, two days before Shepherd married Lamar Sally, Behar quietly got hitched to her longtime boyfriend Steve Janowitz.
A rep for Behar, 68, told People that she was married in New York city in a private ceremony on Thursday, after which the couple departed for their honeymoon. The comedian has been with in a relationship with Janowitz since 1982(!), but has been famously reluctant to tie the knot. (She was married once before, to daughter Eve's father Joe Behar, from 1965-1981.) In 2009, Behar said that she intended to marry Janowitz -- and Barbara Walters even offered to throw her a wedding! -- but she called off the plan within a few months.
"I don't want to talk about it anymore. That's why I told him I broke it off," Behar told OK! in July 2009. "What I'll do is we'll get married, and then I'll tell it. Once you open those floodgates, it really was like 'whoa!' Everybody was calling me and asking me, so I decided to call it off."
True to her word, Behar kept her lips sealed -- even on Twitter, where her pre-honeymoon status update reads, "Gone fishing!"
Shepherd, 44, took the opposite approach to her wedding, celebrating with a very big, very public ceremony in Chicago Saturday. The wedding party included The View's Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Clean House host Niecy Nash, Community's Yvette Nicole Brown -- and Shepherd's 6-year-old son Jeffrey, who walked her down the aisle.
"I want (then-fiancé Lamar Sally) to know that when my son walks me down the aisle, you're not only getting me, but you're getting this little boy," Shepherd told People in January. "He's going to give me away because it's symbolic that he's giving me away for this man to protect me and protect him."
The 30 Rock star, who got engaged in December, tweeted wedding updates throughout the weekend -- including a photo of the final dress fitting, and a memorable post right before the ceremony.
"What happens when you are in your wedding dress and you have to tinkle? Uh-oh!" wrote the bride.
Presumably, disaster was averted -- but we'll get all the dirt in September, when Behar will discuss her wedding on The View's season premiere (September 6) and Shepherd's wedding will air as a special on the Style Network (September 13).
