Monday night's '80s-themed episode of Dancing with the Stars offered very few show-stoppers -- but audiences did get a a bit of a surprise when J. R. Martinez and partner Karina Smirnoff danced their way to the top of the leader board.

The All My Children actor has consistently come in second place since the competition began, but his sexy samba set to Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine's '80s hit "Conga" scored him and a thrilled-looking Smirnoff their first 10 of the season, for a combined highest score of 28.

"¡Muy caliente!" judge Carrie Ann Inaba exclaimed. "I want more of that!"

Judge Len Goodman said "I didn't think you would come out and perform anything like that. The next time someone asks me how should a guy dance the samba, I will say 'Have a look at J.R.!'"

Last week, Ricki Lake and Derek Hough were the pair to beat, with a near-perfect score of 29 and an unforgettable tango to the Psycho theme. But this week, the top-seated couple were done in by the classic '80s move, the Roger Rabbit. The duo's fox trot to "Easy Lover" left the judges wanting more, and they were awarded their lowest score in weeks, a 24.

Other highlights include:

Rob Kardashian had to summon his sensual side to pull off a rumba to "Hello" with Cheryl Burke, who had enlisted help from his friend Romeo to get him over his fear of touching Burke like something more than a sister. They earned their highest score to date, a 25.

After a hilarious behind-the-scenes clip in which David Arquette did a wickedly funny Goodman impression, he and partner Kym Johnson pulled off a fun tango to Soft Cell's "Tainted Love." They also earned a 25, tying them for second place with Kardashian and Burke.

Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer received a 21 for the second week in a row for their booty-shaking samba to Kool & The Gang's "Get Down On It." During rehearsals, Schwimmer invited her famous choreographer father Buddy Schwimmer to show Bono that big men can still shake it. The tutorial paid off, since Bono and Schwimmer did not end up at the bottom of the leader board.

"This was the most dancing I've seen you do in all of your routines so far," Inaba complimented Bono.

Leader board results:

J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff: 28
David Arquette & Kym Johnson: 25
Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke: 25
Hope Solo & Maks Chmerkovskiy: 24
Ricki Lake & Derek Hough: 24
Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus: 22
Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer: 21
Carson Kressley & Anna Trebunskaya: 19
