The 19-year-old niece of Hollywood heavy hitter Julia Roberts (Eat, Pray, Love) -- Emma Roberts -- will be starring in Scream 4, the upcoming installment in the wildly successful horror/comedy franchise. Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Roberts -- daughter of actor Eric Roberts -- will join the film's original stars Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell for the Kevin Williamson-penned chiller.
Reportedly, the movie -- begins filming in late June -- will follow its beloved characters back to the scene of the first crimes (the fictitious Woodsboro), and Roberts "will play a role similar to Campbell’s star-turning one in the original."
Roberts told EW yesterday, "I’m so excited to be part of this ground-breaking franchise. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to do something completely different than I’ve ever done before.” The young actress tweeted earlier today, "SO BEYOND EXCITED FOR SCREAM!!!!!!!!"
Scream director/producer Wes Craven boasted, “Emma’s talent, beauty, and range will add immensely to the sophistication, intensity, and fun of the Scream franchise as it returns to the screen once more.”
Roberts is best-known for her role in wholesome, family-friendly flicks such as Hotel For Dogs, Nancy Drew, and Aquamarine, as well as the hit ensemble rom-com Valentine's Day (which also featured her aunt Julia, though the two shared no screen time together). But joining the Scream team (stars in past Scream movies include Drew Barrymore, Jenny McCarthy, and Jada Pinkett-Smith) may just catapult her into a new level of fame.
