If you've seen the ubiquitous ads for this weekend's star-studded comedy Valentine's Day, you've no doubt noticed Julia Roberts sharing some screen time on an airplane with Bradley Cooper. In fact, if you've caught the trailer, you've seen a good percentage of Roberts' performance in the movie. Turns out Roberts (reuniting once again with her Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride director Garry Marshall) is only on screen for six minutes in the film.
But it's not merely the star's short appearance in the movie that has people talking. It's the reports about how much she was paid. New York Magazine's Vulture blog has reported that the Oscar winner, 42, was paid $3 million for what amounts to a cameo in Valentine's Day. That payday comes out to $500,000 per minute -- or, even more astoundingly, $8,333 per second!
The rest of the cast, which includes stars such as Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Topher Grace, Shirley MacLaine, Taylor Lautner, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner, among others, were collectively paid $50 million for the holiday-friendly fare. Variety reports that the flowery rom-com will open at 3,665 locations this weekend and is favored to be this weekend's box office champ.
Do you think $3 million is too much for six minutes of screen time, or is Julia Roberts worth every penny? Chime in below!
