When Michael C. Hall and wife Jennifer Carpenter announced on Monday that they were filing for divorce, Dexter fans' eyes immediately swooped over to Julia Stiles. All three actors are stars on the hit Showtime series, with Michael in the title role, Carpenter co-starring as his sister and Julia guest-starring as his most recent love interest.
Could it be that playing his wife's sibling (awkward!) had killed the spark for Michael C. Hall, allowing a romance to develop with his ten-years-younger onscreen flame? It's a juicy theory, but Stiles says it's entirely untrue.
"I have absolutely nothing to do with the split between Michael and Jennifer. We are good friends and enjoyed working together," Stiles, 29, said in a statement to Us Magazine. "This is a personal matter between them, and we should respect their privacy. Although I too prefer to keep my private life private, I felt compelled to dispel the rumors I was somehow the cause for this matter."
Hall, 39, and Carpenter, 31, had been married for two years and said they had "been separated for some time." Ironically, they're one of two couples this week being dogged by rumors of on-set infidelity. Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson also just announced their separation after two years of marriage. While most sources are claiming that the hot couple just grew apart, there's been some speculation that Reynolds fooled around with his Green Lantern costar Blake Lively.
We're curious to see whether the Gossip Girl star -- who's recently been linked to Ryan Gosling -- will go the Julia Stiles route and issue a denial. It may not be true, but at the moment, it's getting her lots of interesting publicity!
