Just Say No

Learn the gentle art of refusal. “You have to be realistic about what you don’t have time to do during the holidays,” says Amanda LeBlanc, Birmingham, Alabama-based organizer and Style Network star. Otherwise you’ll spend your days rushing here to there, missing out on precious family time. “Your family takes their cue from you, and no one will enjoy the holiday if you feel stressed,” she suggests, so decide what traditions are important to you and forgo the rest. Barbara Reich, author of the soon-to-be-published Secrets of an Organized Mom (Simon & Schuster) agrees. “You can’t do it all. You don’t have to plan the office party, bake cookies for the Brownie troop, and head up the PTA teacher holiday appreciation breakfast. Before committing to anything think about whether you really want to do it or have time to do it.”
