We know he's in a hurry to grow up, but Justin Bieber still needs to obey the speed limit! On Friday morning, the 18-year-old "Boyfriend" singer was busted for driving recklessly on Los Angeles' 101 Freeway.
The pop sensation was pulled over while driving his chrome Fisker Karma sports car (which, as you may recall, was given to him by his manager on The Ellen DeGeneres Show as an 18th birthday present). The arresting officer told the L.A. Times that Biebs was driving over the speed limit and weaving between cars. An eyewitness, City Councilman Dennis Zine, confirmed that Bieber was being reckless behind the wheel.
"Bieber was driving like a maniac. He was weaving in and out of traffic. There was hardly any space between cars as he weaved from lane to lane," Zine told TMZ. "I was going 60 and he drove by me like he was in a rocket ship. He was a maniac."
In Bieber's defense, it appears that this wasn't just a joy ride. The singer was being chased by a team of paparazzi (described by Zine as a "caravan of other vehicles"). After being cited for speeding, Bieber got back on the highway, and the photographers resumed their chase -- at which point, the singer called 911 for help. The California Highway Patrol is reportedly investigating the paparazzi to see if they caused a dangerous situation.
Even though there were extenuating circumstances this time, Bieber is developing a disturbing pattern of traffic violations. He was pulled over at least three times in 2011 alone: once for making an unsafe turn, once for cutting off a police officer and once for looking too young to drive. (That third one, obviously, is not an actual criminal offense.) Sounds like he ought to be a little more careful behind the wheel; even though his fancy car can go 125 miles per hour, it can't outrun the law.
